Harley sees increasing sales in Indonesia this year
PT Mabua Harley Davidson, the sole authorised dealer for the motorbike brand in Indonesia, is expecting higher sales this year, spurred by strong economic growth, which creates higher purchasing power for Indonesians, an executive said.
“This business has been running very well and we are expecting to sell more bikes than last year because more people are choosing Harley Davidson,” Mabua marketing communication and club supports general manager Youlanda Motoh told The Jakarta Post recently. She, however, declined to reveal the targeted number.
“People choose Harley as it is not only seen as a motorbike but also as a lifestyle.”
The company has introduced four new models from the bike’s family: Trike, CVO, Softail and Sportster.
Mabua launched the Trike with Tri Glide Ultra Classic type this year, a three-wheeled motorbike designed to provide touring convenience with a passenger seat at the back.
This model is also equipped with a Harman-Kardon audio system, luggage space and an electric reverse system to ease the parking process.
From the CVO family, the CVO Breakout type, a Softail-like designed motorbike with Twin Cam 110 cubic inch engine or equals to 1,802 cc, made its debut in Indonesia. It costs 580 million rupiah (US$59,740) off the road.
“Another two new models that we have introduced to the market this year were the Softail Slim and Sportster Seventy-Two,” she added.
The Softail Slim runs on an engine with 1,690 cc capacity while the Sportster Seventy-Two, priced at 282 million rupiah, is built with a 1,200 cc engine.
With the rising demand from the market, the firm plans to open a new outlet in Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta.
Youlanda said the country’s strong market could be seen by the huge enthusiasm of Indonesian customers to participate in touring activities in the US and European countries this year.
“Despite the fact that every year the Harley Davidson community has their own touring agenda, as an authorised dealer, we are offering several touring packages in the US and Europe this year. We have received a very positive response from customers,” she said.
Mabua Harley Davidson is a member of the MRA Group’s automotive division, with outlets spread across major cities such as Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Bali and Medan.
