Together with its partners, Northstar has invested $2 billion in various sectors, including energy, financial services, consumer and retail, industrial and communications.

Prior to co-founding Northstar, Patrick was Senior Vice President of Pacific Century Ventures Ltd in Tokyo, where he played a key role in the firm’s mergers, acquisitions and corporate business development in Japan. He started his career at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in London and New York.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering from Cornell University, USA.

In 2009, Patrick was awarded Ernst & Young’s prestigious ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ award.

Chew Gek Khim

The Straits Trading Company Limited had its first woman Chairman when Gek Khim took over the reins at the 126-year old publicly listed conglomerate in 2008 which has businesses in resources, property and hospitality. Concurrently, she is Executive Chairman of the Tecity Group, the majority shareholder of Straits Trading. She joined the Tecity Group in 1987 after practicing corporate law with Drew & Napier, one of the largest law firms in Singapore. She sits on the Board of publicly listed Capital Retail China Trust.

Gek Khim’s interests go beyond business. She serves the public as Chairman of the National Environment Agency and is a Board member of the Singapore Totalisator Board and the Securities Industry Council. She is also the Deputy Chairman of the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, a member of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s Advisory Board and member of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies’s Board of Governors.

A lawyer by training, Gek Khim graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1984.

Simon Cheong

Simon Cheong is the Chairman and CEO of publicly listed SC Global Developments Ltd in Singapore, a leader in luxury high end residential development.

Mr. Cheong has close to 30 years of experience in real estate, banking and international finance, and has formerly held positions with Citibank (Singapore) as their Head of Real Estate Finance for Singapore and also with Credit Suisse First Boston as a Director and Regional Real Estate Head for Asia (excluding Japan).

Mr. Cheong has served on numerous boards and was elected as the President of the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore for two terms.

Tony Fernandes graduated from Epsom College, London School of Economics and has been the Group CEO of AirAsia since December 2001. Prior to AirAsia, he was the Financial Controller of Virgin Communications London before joining Warner Music International London in 1989. Promoted to Managing Director, Warner Music Malaysia in 1992 and to Regional Managing Director, Warner Music South East Asia in 1996. In 1999, he was the Vice President of Warner Music South East Asia. His awards include the Honor of the Commander of the Order of the British Empire, conferred by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2011 for services to promote commercial and educational links between the UK and Malaysia. In 2010, he received the Officer of the Legion d’Honneur award from the French government, the highest award that can be conferred on a non-French national.

He was named as one of the world’s most creative people in business for 2011 by New York-based business magazine Fast Company, and awarded the inaugural ‘Travel Business Leaders Award’ winner by CNBC.

Emirsyah Satar

On his appointment as President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia on March 2005, Emirsyah Satar became one of the youngest CEO of an airline company in the Asia Pacific region. He received his degree in Accounting from the University of Indonesia in 1978. Previously, he had accomplished academic programs at Sorbonne University in Paris.

In 1998, he was offered the position of Garuda Indonesia’s EVP Finance. During that time, he played a major role in the airline’s financial restructuring process carried out in 2001 which amounted to US$ 1.8 billion. Under his leadership, the airline has undergone a major financial and operational turnaround culminating in the IPO of Garuda Indonesia in February 2011.

Since 2008, he become Chairman of INACA (Indonesian National Air Carrier Associations). In 2010 he just appointed as a Member IATA Board of Governors (IATA: International Air Transport Association).

Dr Alan Tan

Alan Tan is Professor at the NUS Law School, specialising in Aviation Law, Maritime Law, Criminal Law and Environmental Law. Alan is Director of the NYU@NUS Dual Degree program that allows students to obtain two LL.M degrees from the New York University and NUS Law Schools.

Born in Penang, Malaysia, Alan was educated at the Penang Free School and Raffles Junior College, subsequently obtaining an LL.B from NUS and an LL.M and J.S.D. from Yale Law School. He was the winner of the Koh Han Kok Prize for International Law at NUS, and his doctoral thesis on the law and politics of shipping regulation won the Ambrose Gherini International Law Prize at Yale Law School. Alan has been a Justices’ Law Clerk for the Supreme Court of Singapore and has also interned at the International Maritime Organization in London. He has published widely on Maritime Law, Aviation Law and Environmental Law, particularly in the context of Asian countries. In 2006, his book “Vessel-Source Marine Pollution: The Law and Politics of International Regulation”, was published by Cambridge University Press. In the same year, his article in the Air & Space Law journal – “Liberalizing Aviation in the Asia-Pacific Region: The Impact of the E.U. Horizontal Mandate” – won the Diedriks-Verschoor Prize for best law article.

Alexander Rusli

Alexander Rusli assumed the role of President Director and CEO as of 1st of November 2012 after serving as an Independent Commissioner since January 2010. Before November 2012 Mr. Rusli was a Managing Director in Northstar Pacific, a Private Equity fund which focuses on Indonesian and South East Asian opportunities.

Prior to his role in Northstar Pacific, Mr Rusli served the Government of Indonesia for nine years, whereby he was the Expert Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and the Expert Staff to the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises. During that period, he also held numerous state-owned corporate positions in companies including PT Krakatau Steel (Persero), PT Geodipa Energi, PT Kertas Kraft Aceh.

Prior to his posts in government, Mr. Rusli was also a Principal Consultant for Pricewaterhouse Coopers Management Consulting, Indonesia. Mr. Rusli is an alumnus of the Curtin University, Western Australia and He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Information Systems.

Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala is Chairman and CEO of Ayala Corporation, the holding company of the oldest business group in the Philippines with interests in real estate, telecommunications, banking, electronics manufacturing, water distribution, automotive, business process outsourcing, power and transport infrastructure.

Mr. Zobel de Ayala is Chairman of the Harvard Business School Asia-Pacific Advisory Board, the Asia Business Council and the World Wildlife Fund Philippine Advisory Council. He is a member of the J.P. Morgan International Council and the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum. He is also the Philippine Representative to the APEC Business Advisory Council. In 2007, he received the Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award and in 2009 he was a recipient of the Philippine Legion of Honor in recognition of his outstanding public service to the country.

He earned his B.A. in economics (with honors) at Harvard University in 1981 and his M.B.A. in 1987.

Francis Yeoh

Trained as a Civil Engineer, Francis Yeoh took over the running of his family’s company in 1988 and grew it into a business conglomerate comprising of six listed companies, with a combined market capitalisation of over RM38 billion (USD10.5 billion). YTL owns and manages regulated utilities and other infrastructural assets, serving 10 million customers in three continents.

He has been awarded as the Ernst and Young’s Master Entrepreneur in Malaysia and CNBC’s Malaysia CEO of the Year. Most recently, AsiaMoney named him one of Asia’s Top Executives 2008.

In recognition of his many endeavours, Francis was appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2006.

Mr. Newbigging was appointed Group Managing Director on 1st April 2012. He has been employed by Jardine Matheson since 1995 in a variety of roles, spanning the fields of business process outsourcing, aviation services, retailing and engineering, and over this period was based in the Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Prior to his current appointment he was Chief Executive of The Jardine Engineering Corporation and before that, General Manager of IKEA Hong Kong.

Mr. Newbigging is a Commissioner of Astra International, Vice President Commissioner of United Tractors and Chairman of Cycle & Carriage Bintang. He is also Chairman of Mindset Care, a charity of the Jardine Matheson Group of Companies in Singapore.

Mr. Newbigging graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Master of Arts (Honours) degree in mental philosophy, and has completed the General Management Program at the Harvard Business School.

David Chin

Mr David S.S. Chin is the Executive Director of the Singapore Maritime Foundation. The Foundation was established to serve as the link between the public and private sectors in the maritime industry. SMF works in partnership with the maritime players to drive initiatives, attract and nurture talent and raise public awareness of the Singapore maritime sector. These efforts are in line with the vision to make Singapore a leading international maritime centre.

Mr Chin was the Director General (Trade) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, till his retirement from the Singapore government service at end 2006. From early 2007 till end 2011, Mr Chin continued as a Consultant to the Ministry of Trade and Industry on trade issues.

Mr Chin holds a Bachelor of Science degree (1st Class Honours) in Engineering from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Polytechnic, UK. Mr Chin attended the Advanced Management Program XI, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, on the fall of 1992.

Mr. Wai Phyo is the Managing Director of Yathar Cho Industry Ltd., which is one of the largest food manufacturing companies in the country. His group also includes other food manufacturing businesses as well as one of the largest distribution companies with a nationwide reach. Mr. Wai Phyo holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the American University of Washington D.C.

He is also an active member of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and is currently one of the Vice Presidents and is the youngest one to be elected to the post. Other positions include President of the Myanmar Young Entrepreneurs Association, Vice President of the Myanmar Industries Association and Myanmar Food Processors and Exporters Association and member of the East Asia Business Council and Young Presidents’ Organization.

Pushpanathan Sundram

Pushpanathan Sundram (Nathan) is the Managing Director of EAS Strategic Advice – Asia in Singapore. EAS provides strategic and specialist services for governments, trade associations and companies globally in regulatory affairs, public affairs, trade policy and law, issues management, and corporate social responsibility.

He is also is a Senior Fellow with the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA), a leading think-tank in Southeast Asia. Previously, he served at the ASEAN Secretariat for 16 years holding several senior positions with the last being the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN (Deputy Minister level) for ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) from January 2009 to March 2012.

He received the first Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) Outstanding Alumni Award in 2011 and the Commander of the Sahakmetrey Order Medal from the Kingdom of Cambodia in 2012 for his work in ASEAN and East Asia. He holds a first degree in Economics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Master degree in Public Policy from the LKYSPP, NUS.

Azman Mokhtar is the Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the strategic investment fund of the Government of Malaysia. He is also the Chairman of Iskandar Investment Berhad and Axiata Group Berhad and holds various Board memberships including Iskandar Regional Development Authority, Yayasan Khazanah and Jadwa Investment of Saudi Arabia. He serves on various public service bodies including Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), Executive Committee of Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC), Bumiputera Agenda Action Council and Governance Council of Malaysia Innovation Agency. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Asia Business Council, the INSEAD East Asia Council and the Global Agenda Council on the Role of Business for the 2011 World Economic Forum.

He obtained his M.Phil in Development Studies from Darwin College, University of Cambridge and a postgraduate diploma in Islamic Studies from the International Islamic University, Malaysia. He is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Ong Keng Yong

Ong Keng Yong is currently High Commissioner of Singapore to Malaysia. Prior to his posting in Kuala Lumpur, he served as Ambassador-At-Large in the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was concurrently the Director of the Institute of Policy Studies in the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore from 2008 to 2011.

Mr. Ong served as Secretary-General of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), based in Jakarta, Indonesia, from January 2003 to January 2008. He was Singapore’s Non- Resident Ambassador to Iran from 2009 to 2011.

He is a graduate of the University of Singapore and Georgetown University (Washington D.C., USA)

Kevin Meehan

Kevin Meehan is a partner with Bain & Company’s SE Asia practice and is based in Singapore. He is co-head of Bain’s Asia-Pacific Technology, Media and Telecoms practice and a member of the global Oil & Gas practice.

Mr. Meehan has worked with clients in a variety of industries, including semiconductors, wireless communications, mobility devices, broadcast media, enterprise storage, and upstream oil and gas, among others. His projects have spanned a wide range of business issues, such as growth strategy, cost and complexity reduction, strategic due diligence, procurement, supply chain management, post merger integration and organizational effectiveness.

Previously, Mr. Meehan worked for Teradyne, a leading manufacturer of semiconductor test equipment, serving initially as a product manager in Boston and later as regional marketing and business development manager in Southeast Asia. Prior to Teradyne, he worked as an engineer in the US Army Corps of Engineers.

He completed his graduate studies as a Leaders for Manufacturing Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), earning an MS in Materials Science (Electronic Materials) as well as an MBA. He also holds a BSc in Engineering Physics (Lasers and Optics) from the United States Military Academy.

Ms. Amin is a news correspondent and anchor for Bloomberg Television. Based in Singapore, she has been at the heart of market makers and stories that have driven the transformation of Southeast Asia.

Nazir Razak is the Group Chief Executive/Managing Director of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd. He joined CIMB’s corporate advisory department in 1989 and was appointed Chief Executive in 1999. Nazir spearheaded the Group’s transformation from a Malaysian investment bank to a regional universal bank via several acquisitions throughout the region. Today, CIMB Group is Malaysia’s 2nd largest financial services group and the 5th largest in ASEAN.

Nazir received the “2012 Outstanding Achievement Award” from Euromoney in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Asian financial markets. He was also named “Best CEO (Malaysia)” by FinanceAsia in 2012 and 2011, while in 2010, Asiamoney recognised Nazir as the “Best Executive in Malaysia”. Nazir also became the youngest recipient of FinanceAsia’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2009.

He graduated from the University of Bristol with a B.Sc. (Hons) and obtained an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge.

Cezar Peralta Consing

Cezar Peralta Consing is one of the most experienced Asian international investment bankers. In 1985, he was appointed assistant vice president in corporate banking but later joined J.P. Morgan & Co as a transferee from BPI. At J.P. Morgan, Consing built a 20-year career in investment banking while based in Hong Kong and Singapore.

He earned a degree in Economics (accelerated program, magna cum laude) from De La Salle University in 1979, and a master’s degree in Applied Economics from the University of Michigan in 1980.

Chartsiri Sophonpanich

Chartsiri Sophonpanich is the President of Bangkok Bank, the largest commercial bank in Thailand. After working at Citibank in New York, he returned to Thailand to join Bangkok Bank in 1986. He held various senior management positions in Bangkok Bank before being appointed President in December 1994. Along with his responsibilities at Bangkok Bank, Mr. Chartsiri is also Chairman of the Thai Bankers’ Association and a member of the Board of Trustees of Singapore Management University.

In 2005, Chartsiri received the Achievement Award for Leadership in Thailand from the Asian Banker magazine and the Robert H. Goddard Alumni Award from Worcester Polytechnic Institute for exceptional achievement in business.

Mr. Chartsiri was educated in the United States at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he obtained two Master’s Degrees in Chemical Engineering and in Management.

Mr. Sadikin graduated with a BSc in Nuclear Science from Bandung Institute of Technology in 1988.

Vincent Chin

Vincent Chin is a Senior Partner of The Boston Consulting Group and the managing director of its South East Asian businesses and operations. Concurrently, he also leads BCG’s Retail Banking segment across Asia Pacific. Vincent has over 23 years of experience in line management and consulting positions. A computer scientist by training, Vincent’s core area of focus in consulting has been in Strategy Formulation and Corporate Development. He has worked primarily with clients in Financial Services, Government agencies and Energy and Utilities across Asia Pacific.

Besides serving clients and managing the business in the region, Vincent has authored a number of global reports on energy, financial services and economic development, as well as contributing regularly on economic development issues in national and international forums and media.

Vincent is on BCG’s Asia Pacific Management Team and also sits on the board of several not-for-profit organizations in Singapore and Malaysia.

Dr. Lim Cheok Peng

Dr. Lim Cheok Peng is the Managing Director of IHH Healthcare Berhad and Vice Chairman of Parkway Pantai Limited. He has extensive experience both as a medical practitioner and in managing hospital businesses. Since 1987, Dr Lim has been with the Parkway Group where he has played a leading role in accelerating the Group’s growth in key markets and provided guidance on strategic matters.

A cardiologist by training, Dr Lim sits on the board of several private limited companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, India and Turkey. He also served on various committees including Singapore’s Parliamentary Committee for Health and the Economic Review Committee.
