Dr. Juwono Sudarsono

Prof. Dr. Juwono has a long and distinguished career in civil service. He was the first civilian Minister of Defence under President Gus Dur and most recently served as Minister of Defence under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono from 2004 to 2009.

Previously, Dr. Juwono served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom under President Megawati, Minister of Education and Culture under President Habibie and Minister of State for the Environment under President Soeharto. An academic at heart, Dr. Juwono was Vice Governor of The National Defence College, a lecturer at the School of Public and International Affairs at Columbia University and served at the University of Indonesia as Head of the Department of International Relations and Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Science. He earned his B.A. and M.S. at University of Indonesia, followed by a stint at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands. Dr. Juwono earned his M.A. at the University of California at Berkeley and his PhD at the London School of Economics. Dr. Juwono is chairman of President University Foundation. He is currently an Emeritus Professor of the University of Indonesia.
