Nazir Razak

CIMB Group

Nazir Razak is the Group Chief Executive/Managing Director of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd. (“CIMB Group”). He joined CIMB’s corporate advisory department in 1989 and was appointed Chief Executive in 1999. Nazir spearheaded the Group’s transformation from a Malaysian investment bank to a regional universal bank via several acquisitions throughout the region.

Today, CIMB Group is Malaysia’s 2nd largest financial services group and the 5th largest in ASEAN, with total assets of around $118 billion and a staff force of 42,000. CIMB Group and its subsidiaries are located in 8 out of 10 ASEAN nations and collectively cater to the universal banking needs of over 13 million customers. Operating on a dual banking model, CIMB Group also offers Shariah-compliant financial solutions in investment banking, consumer banking, asset management and insurance via CIMB Islamic.

Under Nazir’s stewardship, CIMB Group has won many prestigious accolades. In 2012, CIMB Group was recognised by The Banker as the “Most Innovative Investment Bank” from Asia Pacific. CIMB Group was also awarded the “Best Bond House” and “Best Equity House” in Southeast Asia by Alpha Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, CIMB Group was recognised by Euromoney as the “Best Bank” and “Best Investment Bank”. CIMB Group was also awarded Malaysia’s “Best Investment Bank”, “Best Bond House”, “Best Equity House” and “Best Broker” by FinanceAsia. Asiamoney named CIMB Group the “Best Islamic Bank in Asia”.

Nazir received the “2012 Outstanding Achievement Award” from Euromoney in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Asian financial markets. He was also named “Best CEO (Malaysia)” by FinanceAsia in 2012 and 2011, while in 2010, Asiamoney recognised Nazir as the “Best Executive in Malaysia”. Nazir also became the youngest recipient of FinanceAsia’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2009.

Nazir is married to Dato’ Azlina Aziz and they have 2 young children. He graduated from the University of Bristol with a B.Sc. (Hons) and obtained an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge.
