More than 250 chief executives, industry influencers and thought leaders with audience from around the world were brought together at the third annual Insights ASEAN Summit (IAS) in Singapore from 17-18 November 2016. Tan Sri Munir Majid, the Chairman of CIMB ASEAN Research Institute and the President of ASEAN Business Club, participated in the two-day summit themed “Reshuffling the Deck”, which was organized in collaboration with Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) chapters across South East Asia.

The event which gathered the most influential CEOs and business leaders, both from within and outside YPO, explored issues pertaining to ASEAN, focusing on the drivers behind change and the need for agility, adaptability and foresight, as businesses confront an uncertain and volatile environment. While giving recognition to the tremendous opportunities offered by the greater integration of ASEAN, the summit also addressed the challenges faced by business leaders to remain profitable and stay ahead of competition amidst the less favourable global economic condition.

Tan Sri Dr. Munir Majid, together with Jonathan Asherson, the Regional Director of ASEAN and Pacific for Rolls Royce Singapore, Don Lam, the CEO and Founding Partner of VinaCapital Vietnam and Kirk Wagar, the US Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore became panellists for the session “Global and Regional Growth: The Role of Trade and Economic Communities”, and discussed the ways for businesses to navigate and maximize opportunities despite facing shortcomings of the low normal in growth. The panellists also exchanged views on the relevance of AEC, TPP, RCEP and OBOR as well as their significant impact on restarting global economic growth. Additional speakers at the summit included Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, the former Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia and Chairman of AirAsia X Malaysia, Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman for Banyan Tree Holdings and Frank Lavin, CEO and Founder for Export Now and Former United States Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore.

During the summit, member CEOs and entrepreneurs such as Lisa Oake, Founder of Oake Media Singapore, Arvind Narula, Ceo and Founder of Urmatt Group Thailand and Rick Santos, Chairman, CEO and Founder of CBRE Philippines imparted their insights from various industries such as technology, real estate, retail, financial services and manufacturing, all serving to inspire and create passion for strengthening Asia through the sharing of experiences, best practices and extensive networking. The summit united YPO members annually with global investors and business leaders to discuss the latest challenges and opportunities within the ASEAN region.
