CIMB ASEAN Research Institute conducted regional training workshops on services trade liberalisation and negotiations for ministry officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam

The CIMB ASEAN Research Institute (CARI) conducted regional training workshops on services trade liberalisation and negotiations for officials from selected ministries responsible for services trade development in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV) on 27 and 28 November as well as 30 November and 1 December 2017.

As part of the German Development Cooperation project, “Support to the Initiative for ASEAN Integration within the Framework of the ASEAN Single Market”, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) commissioned CARI to conduct the trainings which were hosted by the Ministry of Planning and Finance (MoPF) of Myanmar in Naypyidaw. The objective of the workshops was to enable participants to effectively prepare, coordinate and implement services trade negotiations in complex institutional settings.

The German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commissioned GIZ to implement the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI), which is aimed at supporting Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam to effectively implement agreements intended to secure the free flow of services and investment, and to promote the mobility of skilled labour.

Participants of the workshop represented officials from the ministries for trade, investment, tourism and health from the CLMV countries. They presented their current status and respective priorities on services liberalisation and discussed effective strategies for negotiation.
